Description

For many travelers, the pyramids mean only the famous Giza's monuments, but there's another group of pyramids within short distance of Cairo, Where pyramid building in Egypt first began. The Step Pyramid of Saqqara is magnificent evidence of the early architecture of the pharaohs and the Old Kingdom's most amazing treasures. In recent years, Saqqara has become headline-grabbing archaeological news as more discoveries are made during ongoing archaeological work here. The most recent finds of the funerary tomb of Queen Nearit - wife of 6th Dynasty Pharaoh Teti - and 52 burial shafts with over 50 coffins are only the latest in a mind-boggling array of discoveries. For history fans, a day trip here is a must-do while in Cairo. finish the visit at Sakkara by visiting the Imhotep museum.
Then  to Dashur, first of all, you will get to visit the Red Pyramid, also known as the Northern Pyramid, believed to have been built by Pharaoh Snefru. It was the world’s first “true” pyramid, meaning it was designed as a smooth-sided structure, not converted from a step pyramid. Access into this pyramid is free, though it does mean negotiating a very steep interior slope: well worth it for the views inside! From here you will be taken the short distance to see Snefru’s famous “Bent Pyramid”, so named due to the change in angle that was forced upon the builders due to the pyramid being built on soft sand, which caused it to start subsiding.
